Imperial does not publish a hard threshold. The typical successful applicant lands 5.5+ on the new 1.0 to 7.0 scale. The competitive band sits closer to 6.5+. Above 7.0 puts you in the top decile of the applicant pool. Below 5.5 the file becomes meaningfully harder.

Do I need STEP for Imperial Maths?

No. Imperial Maths offers do not include STEP. The TMUA is the only admissions test. If you are also applying to Cambridge Maths, the STEP prep still pays off because the problem-solving fluency carries over; for Imperial alone, the TMUA is sufficient.

MSci is the standard application for most Imperial Maths applicants because it is the four-year integrated masters the department designed around. The BSc exists as a step-down option. Apply MSci unless you have a specific reason not to.

Standard offer is A*A*A with A* in Maths and Further Maths. The TMUA score does not substitute for predicted grades; it sits beside them. A predicted A*AA with a TMUA 7.0+ rarely lands an offer; a predicted A*A*A* with a TMUA 5.0 also rarely lands an offer. The two signals have to be coherent.
